I think that Thanksgiving weekend is my favorite time of the year. It's always just so...cozy. My favorite people, my favorite foods, a nice long weekend, a few days of fun and relaxation...what's not to love?
This year, for the first time in recent memory, we didn't have Thanksgiving dinner at our house. Jim's grandmother has a hard time getting up stairs these days, which makes our house a difficult place to visit -- the four steps to get in the front door is a lot for her. So instead, we cooked all of the advance-prep stuff at home and then hauled it all over to my mother-in-law's house, where we cooked and served everything else. It worked out really well (there's more counter space there than there is here, AND a dishwasher!) and it made for a really lovely day. I was afraid that I might find it stressful to cook in someone else's kitchen, but we prepared well and so it wasn't a problem at all. (The closest thing to a "problem" that we had was that it didn't occur to us to take any pictures at all on the day. Oh well!)
I try very hard to be mindful of all my blessings year-round, not just at Thanksgiving, but it's nice to have a couple of days that are dedicated to thankfulness. And I have so much to be thankful for: I am lucky enough to be surrounded every day by love and laughter and joy and warmth and plenty. I couldn't ask for anything else.
Wonderfully done.
