Wow. This post almost makes me want to learn to "speak Dewey". ;)

I love CIP mistakes. My favourite was How Safe is Food in your Kitchen, a book on how to prevent food from spoiling, etc. The geniuses at LC assigned the number for police science.
You can't make this stuff up.

I like the 800's. And 741.5 (if I recall from my page days, that's where they put graphic novels -- however, I like that section a LOT more as a patron than I did as a page!).

But you know? Your job sounds like one of the more fun library positions!

I love Dewey!

This is only very slightly related to your post, but I really want my other book group to read "Ahab's Wife: Or, The Star-Gazer: A Novel" and your post just made me remember that.

I am so jealous! I haven't cataloged in 10 years, but that is the reason I went to library school in the first place! Maybe there will be a job for me like yours sometime in the next 50 years ;)

Hi there. I've been reading your blog for a while now.. I'm a knitter and a librarian as well! Anyway, I deal mostly with LC call numbers, so your post got me thinking about all the wierd things in LC. Here's my favorite!

GV401-433 Physical education facilities. Sports facilities Including gymnasiums, athletic fields,
playgrounds, etc.

GV435-436.7 Physical measurements. Physical tests, etc.

GV450-451.4 Nudism. Sunbathing (HUH?)

GV460-555 Gymnastics. Gymnastic exercises

' ' you could have a book on table manners for children shelved right next to the books on cannibalism ' '

And right between them would be the book of manners dealing with inviting your neighbors over for a bite?... ;-)
